Timothy Bruce Gaffney, age 70, of Lapeer, died Friday, January 11, 2019. He was born August 4, 1948 in Flint, to John and Joyce (Darrow) Gaffney.
Timothy graduated from Flint Central High School and married Mary Torres on May 13, 1976 in Metamora, Michigan. He worked as a truck driver for Road Way Express and W & R Transport, retiring in 2010. Mr. Gaffney proudly served his country in the U. S. Army Reserves. Timothy started skiing at age 10 and by age 15 was on the Junior Ski Patrol. For over 40 years, he was an active member of the National Ski Patrol… he was at Mt. Holly for 30 years and Otsego Club in Gaylord for the last 10 years. Skiing, Ski Patrol and teaching Ski Patrol Skills were Timothy’s passion, he taught first aid, skiing and toboggan handling. Timothy and Mary enjoyed winters in the Gaylord area, in order to spend more time skiing. He was a talented macramé craftsman, also teaching his grandchildren the skills to make macramé lamps, purses, oil lamps and jewelry. Mr. Gaffney “wore his heart on his sleeve”, and was always happy to share his talents and interests with others.
Mr. Gaffney is survived by his wife: Mary Gaffney; sons: William Paul John (Sheree) Gaffney of Lapeer and Jonathan (Alyson) Gaffney of Salt Lake City, Utah; grandchildren: Aaron, Kierra, Dameon, Logan and “Lyli Bug”; and sister: Diane Coffey of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and many many dear family and friends he is now rejoicing with in heaven.
